Minnesota has had gun storage legislation since 2018. It has been modified several times and more modifications are recommended. Until recently, I assumed I had to purchase an expensive gun cabinet. Now, with the purchase of a $3.50 gun lock, I am in compliance. Minnesota gave away 40,000 gun locks. Promote, Promote, Promote. The law modifications should include all firearms being locked, regardless of children presence, increasing penalties and civil liability for violations (Negligent Entrustment), cover those ineligible to possess firearms, and requirements that address stolen firearm reporting. Requiring a permit to purchase a firearm and expanded background checks are recommended.

Promote and legislate above recommendations.
